OUR APPROACH
Our first session will involve a clinical interview to address presenting symptoms and challenges associated with your family member’s neurological disorder and your experiences as a caregiver.
Within a biopsychosocial framework, we will address changes in the patient’s physical functioning; emotions and behavior; thinking and information processing; and effects on you and your family. Together we will discuss long-term and short-term goals regarding your role as a caregiver and a treatment plan following a CBT approach.
Sessions will typically begin on a weekly basis and become less frequent as time continues. Brief questionnaires will be completed throughout treatment to monitor progress. Homework assignments will allow the individual to practice interventions conducted during sessions in order to promote generalization of skills learned.
These activities are conducted within a humanistic/existential framework and are intended to help individuals acquire useful tools to improve their functioning and outlook on a lifelong basis.
