If you are seeking therapy for changes in mood/emotions and behaviors for an individual with a neurological condition, including multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy, or dementia/mild cognitive impairment, near Springfield, VA, we can help you. We are experienced practitioners with cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and we specialize in working with individuals with neurological conditions.
Dr. Fedio has been working with individuals with neurological disorders for over 30 years, initially as a research psychologist, and since 2008 as a private practitioner. She earned doctoral degrees from The Catholic University of America (PhD) and the American School of Professional Psychology, Virginia (PsyD). Dr. Fedio completed clinical training at Inova Mount Vernon Rehabilitation Hospital, the Psychiatric Institute of Washington, and George Washington University Medical Center.
She has held academic appointments at the American School of Professional Psychology and The Chicago School of Professional Psychology and has been teaching graduate students in clinical psychology/neuropsychology for 25 years.
Dr. Fedio is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in the Commonwealth of Virginia and conducts neuropsychological evaluations and offers therapy to individuals with neurological conditions and their families.
Our first session will involve a clinical interview to address presenting symptoms and challenges associated with the neurological disorder. Within a biopsychosocial framework, we will address changes in physical functioning; emotions and behavior; thinking, memory, executive functions, and language; and effects on your family, social life, and work environment.
Together we will discuss long-term and short-term goals and a treatment plan following a CBT approach. Sessions will typically begin on a weekly basis and become less frequent as time continues.
Brief questionnaires will be completed throughout treatment to monitor progress. Homework assignments will allow the individual to practice interventions conducted during sessions in order to promote generalization of skills learned.
These activities are conducted within a humanistic/existential framework and are intended to help individuals acquire useful tools to improve their functioning and outlook on a lifelong basis.
